Faith Formation
Confirmation
Message from Pastor Zawistoski
Welcome to our Confirmation page. During this time of physical distancing we want to make sure there are still opportunities for learning. It is hard to replace the face to face interaction that goes on in a class setting, however, we do want to continue our learning as much as possible.
Each week there will be another posting of a lesson for 6-7th grade, who are learning stories in the Old Testament; and for 8th grade who are doing Theology 101. Click on the appropriate link. Videos will also be offered along with some leaders’ guides. For those you will have to enter a username and password because of copyright permissions. Just follow the prompts.
Let us pray: Gracious God, we give thanks for each new day. We pray that days go into weeks, the present fears and crisis will ebb. We long to be with one another, but for the moment we await that time again. Cover us each with your love, grant all families, parents, grandparents the safety of your sure embrace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you have any questions about your assignment, please click on the button below to ask Pastor Zawistoski.
Students: Remember you can still do your Worship Notes while watching the on-line worship service. A copy was sent to every parent. Simply fill it in and send me a copy to rzawistoski@saintluke.us

Jonah
Jonah was called by God to be and act as a messenger from God. But Jonah was a reluctant man. Sometimes God calls us and we are not sure just how to do that. Read the story, view the video, and discuss the questions with your family.
Prayer: Calling and seeking God. We know many times what you call us into, and you promised you will always be with us. Help us to remember that your presence is with us, guiding us and encouraging us along the way. Amen.
Find the book of Jonah in the Bible. It is usually called Wisdom literature. Whether the events actually happened or not, the story remains a very important lesson about us and God.
Take time to read the book. It is short. Try to get a sense of the flow of the story. It has the following parts: Fill them in.
God’s request of Jonah
Jonah’s response to God
God’s action toward Jonah
Jonah’s response
God’s rescue
Jonah goes
God’s action toward the people of Nineveh
Jonah’s response
God’s action to Jonah’s pouting

Christian Denominations
There are many Christian denominations. I am sure many of your friends belong to a different Christian denomination other than Lutheran. So may not be of Christian faith, and we discussed those in a previous class. Today we look at some of the other Christian expressions of faith. Look at the charts, view the video, and explore some Christian expressions other than our own. Set me know what you find out. Email me your findings.
Prayer: Gracious God, your gather your people into Your Church. We sometimes only see the narrow vision of what you have for us. Help us to remember that you want to be one with us as you are one with your Father. Help us to see the many and varied gifts of faith in one another. Amen.
Look at the two charts by clicking on the buttons below.
Answer the following questions as it relates to the charts:
How are they the same?
How are they different?
What do you think were the crucial dates in the formation of different denominations?
Why do you think there are so many denominations?
Look up on the internet, four of the denominations you most wonder about.
Find out how many people belong.
Find how they differ from our Lutheran tradition.
Where do they agree?
click on the button below and complete the chart.
